Converting Ounces to Milliliters by Hand
Multiply US fluid ounces by 29.5735. The full figure is 29.5735295625 ml per fluid ounce, which is what this page uses before rounding the display to four decimals. Divide milliliters by the same number to head back.
Worked example
A standard soda can holds 12 fl oz. 12 × 29.5735 = 354.88 ml, which is why the same can sold in metric countries is labeled 355 ml. An 8 oz cup of coffee works out to 236.59 ml.
US ounce or imperial ounce
This converter uses the US fluid ounce. The UK imperial fluid ounce is smaller at 28.4131 ml, so a British recipe measured in ounces runs about 4 percent short if you treat it as American. Recipes written in milliliters sidestep the whole problem, which is half the reason they exist.
Weight is a different ounce
